Aftershock Runs Through Sunday at Discovery Park

Aftershock is on the SaccoNews event calendar.

Aftershock is underway at Discovery Park and runs through Sunday, Oct. 4. Saturday's headliner is Pierce The Veil. Sunday's is Tool. Gates are scheduled for 11 a.m. each day at 1000 Garden Highway, where the American River meets the Sacramento. The festival is outdoors, rain or shine.

Aftershock's about page calls it the West Coast's largest rock, punk, and metal festival: 115-plus bands, four stages, four days. It started in 2012 with almost 13,000 fans in one day. In 2025 it drew more than 160,000 across the weekend. Danny Wimmer Presents is the promoter.

Saturday and Sunday

The lineup page has Pierce The Veil as Saturday's headliner. The same page lists A Day To Remember, BABYMETAL, Circa Survive, The Story So Far, DOWN, Sleeping with Sirens, Chiodos, Black Label Society, and Wage War on Saturday. Circa Survive is billed as a West Coast reunion. The Story So Far is billed as a hometown play.

Tool is Sunday's headliner. The lineup page puts Queens of the Stone Age, Danny Elfman, Stone Temple Pilots, AFI, Dance Gavin Dance, Highly Suspect, Body Count feat. Ice-T, Cavalera, Zakk Sabbath, and Wolfmother on that day. Dance Gavin Dance is billed as an exclusive NorCal show. Cavalera is billed for an exclusive performance of Sepultura's Roots. Wolfmother is billed on a 20th anniversary tour. Oleander is billed as a hometown reunion.

The festival's own list of sets with pyro or special effects is My Chemical Romance, $UICIDEBOY$, A Day To Remember, Black Label Society, BABYMETAL, Pierce The Veil, and Sleep Theory. Sleep Theory is on Sunday's lineup. Set times are on the schedule page and in the official app. The festival says the lineup, the schedule, and the set times can change.

Thursday and Friday

Thursday's headliner was My Chemical Romance. That day's lineup page also includes Sublime, The Offspring, and The Pretty Reckless. Friday's headliner was Limp Bizkit, with $UICIDEBOY$, Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, and Cypress Hill among the names on the Friday list. Public Enemy is billed as a 40-year celebration.

Getting there

Fans enter on the north side at Garden Highway or from the south at the Jibboom Street bridge. General parking inside the park is closed. The festival points people to a Park & Ride at Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd. A shuttle pass covers parking there and a nonstop shuttle. Shuttles start about 60 minutes before gates. Service is limited from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, then runs about 75 minutes after the music ends. Each rider needs a pass.

SacRT is providing a supplemental bus from the 8th and K stop to Jibboom Street, near the ARCO on the south side of the park, with the return from that same stop. Rideshare and taxi pickup for the main zone is across the Jibboom Street bridge: follow the bike path under I-5 and the zone is near 500 Bercut Drive. Gold Runner stops at Sacramento Valley Station, 401 I Street. From there the festival puts the walk to Discovery Park at about 35 to 40 minutes, or 1.7 miles, with a short rideshare as the other option.

Paid lots around the park are a separate option, about a 20-minute walk, opening at 10 a.m. The festival says it does not run those lots. The listed approaches are Truxel Road at Mill Creek Drive, and West El Camino Avenue at Natomas Park Drive. Overnight parking is prohibited. Accessible parking on site is limited, $50 a day, card only, first come, and it opens at 10 a.m. A state disabled placard or plate is required, and cars in that lot can be held at the end of the night until the crowd clears. Details are on the Getting Here page.

The bike trail and the boat launch

The Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail, the American River Bike Trail through Discovery Park, is closed from 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5. Festival bikes can still reach the free valet at the Garden Highway and Jibboom Street entrances. Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates runs that valet, and it also takes skateboards and scooters. It opens about 90 minutes before gates. Self-parking a bike is at your own risk.

Through-riders are pointed to the posted detour between the Jibboom Street Bridge and the Natomas Park Drive Bridge. The turn-by-turn is on the festival's bike detour page. The community hotline is 916-365-4397.

The Discovery Park boat launch stays open for setup and teardown. It is closed during the festival itself, Thursday, Oct. 1, through Sunday, Oct. 4.

If you are going in

This is an all-ages festival, and every person needs a pass, including kids. The festival says the grounds include strong language, mature themes, and behavior that may not suit younger kids, and it advises parental discretion. It asks families to bring hearing and sun protection. One factory-sealed bottle of water, 20 ounces at most, or one empty plastic refillable bottle is allowed in. Metal bottles, hydration packs, outside food, cannabis, chairs, and umbrellas are on the prohibited list. Entrances have metal detectors. Water refill stations inside are free. Vendors are cashless: cards, phone pay, and a registered RFID wristband. There is no reverse ATM on site.

Wristband registration is mandatory. The code is on the back of the RFID saddle. A 4-day pass is one wristband for one person for the weekend, and it does not transfer to someone else. Sales are final. Once you are inside for the day, re-entry is closed unless you have a camping wristband, a JamPack hotel-and-admission package, or a 4-day VIP pass bought through Costco. In an emergency, ask for a supervisor at the gate.

Box offices are at the Garden Highway entrance and at the Jibboom Street Bridge entrance. Saturday hours are 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday hours are 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. An off-site box office is at Rock & Brews, 1600 Exposition Blvd., listed Wednesday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Those hours can change. Will call needs a government photo ID. The full rules are on the festival info and pass info pages.
